Rest of the world

At the heart of TFA’s work is our support for a global network of platforms and organizations that promote collective action to enable the production of deforestation- and conversion-free commodities. This includes working through multi-sectoral coalitions to create zero-deforestation agreements, design environmental traceability platforms and inform public policies.

TFA’s key partnerships in priority geographies include:

African Sustainable Commodities Initiative (ASCI)

ASCI is a partnership platform that puts producer countries in Africa at the forefront of defining principles for the development of cocoa, rubber, palm oil, coffee, and other commodities in a way that improves livelihoods and protects natural resources, including forests. It is signed by ten African nations.

VISEC, Argentina

VISEC is a platform that brings together members of different value chains to trace and track soy and meat production systems to help make them deforestation-free and traceable.

Sustainable Production Coalition, Peru

The Sustainable Production Coalition is a multi-stakeholder platform in Peru with members from public, private and civil society organization. It aims to promote the transition towards to deforestation-free production chains by being a space for democratic dialogue, commitment, action and information exchange.

Zero-deforestation agreements, Colombia

In 2017 Colombia became the first Latin American country to formally join the Tropical Forest Alliance and it has since established seven sectoral zero-deforestation agreements. These aim to strengthen the capacities of seven production chains (palm, cacao, beef, dairy, coffee, timber, Hass avocado) and involve more than 150 members, including companies, public entities, associations and civil society organizations.

Traceability system, Paraguay

TFA Paraguay is working with various public and private sector agricultural organizations to develop a traceability system based on the VISEC platform in Argentina. This aims to establish common tools to streamline trade between buyers from both countries, to ensure deforestation-free soy production that meets the EUDR’s requirements.

Jurisdictional Action Network (JAN)

The Jurisdictional Action Network (JAN) is a community of 2,200+ representatives from civil society, the private sector, donors, and development partners interested in advancing the use of landscape and jurisdictional approaches for a forest-positive future.
