Launched at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions (2019) in China, TFA China supports Chinese companies and the government to strengthen President Xi Jinping’s vision of ecological civilization within global soft-commodity supply chains. 

 

With the strong engagement and dedication of the Chinese government, businesses and civil society leadership, TFA China is building collective action around solutions to reduce commodity-driven deforestation.

 

Through collective action, mobilization of resources, knowledge, and expertise, TFA China team fosters innovative solutions, promoting sustainable sourcing, responsible land-use planning, and engagement with local communities. By focusing on knowledge sharing and capacity building, the initiative empowers stakeholders to adopt responsible business models, envisioning Chinese companies leading the way in sustainable development.

“China plays an important role in international forest governance. It is the largest importer of soy, beef and forest products and the second-largest importer of palm oil. The global value chains of these four soft commodities are responsible for at least 40% of global deforestation. As a major importer and consumer of soft commodities, China plays a pivotal role in the global soft commodity value chain.“
