## Our work with corporates

Tropical Forest Alliance’s corporate work is focused on engaging with large and influential companies to help translate their commitments into action, disclose their results and push for systemic change that decouples commodity production from deforestation and ecosystem conversion.Despite some significant progress being made to address deforestation and conversion in corporate value chains in recent years, the pace of action is insufficient. Scientific research tells us that a more sustainable production model for agricultural commodities is indeed possible – and can be more profitable and productive.

## Key TFA engagements with corporates include:

The Agriculture Sector Roadmap to 1.5C, the Consumer Goods Forum Forest Positive Coalition of Action, and the Task Force on Green Value Chains.

## The Agriculture Sector Roadmap to 1.5°C

At COP 27, 14 companies with substantial control over the global trade in cattle, palm oil and soy released the Agriculture Sector Roadmap to 1.5°C. The roadmap aims to de-couple the production and sourcing of these products from deforestation. TFA, with support from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, facilitated these companies with their development process.

Pillar 2: The role companies play in supporting the transition to forest positive land use management and commodity production in landscapes.  Pillar 3: How the companies will work with other stakeholders to support forest positive sector transformation.Since the launch of the roadmap, the companies have reported progress implementing it individually and collectively, working as a sector and collaborating with relevant partners to advance roadmap goals.

## Consumer Goods Forum Forest Positive Coalition of Action

Consumer goods companies have a critical role to play in the fight against deforestation and the Consumer Goods Forum Forest Positive Coalition of Action (CGF FPCoA), is a group of 22 retailers and manufacturers accelerating corporate leadership to halt deforestation across their supply chains. The total market worth of the coalition is $1.8 trillion.TFA is a strategic partner to the coalition, and we work with the group to achieve their ambition through collaboration with other stakeholders including suppliers and traders, the finance sector and policy makers.

## Task Force on Green Value Chains (China)

The Taskforce on Green Value Chains was launched at the Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2023 in Tianjin, China. The Taskforce will encourage global supply chain actors who enter China’s market to alleviate deforestation caused by soybeans, palm oil, beef, pulp and paper and other commodities. It aims to strengthen cross-market collaboration, focusing on the following four aspects:

### Improving information sharing and fostering a common understanding

across supply chains.

### Engagement with the public sector

to create an enabling policy environment.

### Empowering consumers

to make sustainable purchases through increased public awareness.

### Encouraging partnerships

with producer countries.

## Taskforce Members

As of November 2024, the 10 members of the Taskforce are: Mengniu, Yili, McDonald’s China, Nestlé China, Loreal China, Cofco Intl., Bunge China, Cargill China, LDC China, Yihai-Kerry.As one of the first pilots of the Taskforce, COFCO International (the trading arm of China’s state-run food group) and Modern Farming Group (a Mengniu Group subsidiary that produces milk and milk products) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to supply and accept soybeans in line with the COFCO International Responsible Agriculture Standard certification program. This deal, valued at more than US$30 million, is the first soybean order in China with a clear “deforestation- and conversion-free (DCF)” clause, which indicates that the production of commodities does not cause a change to natural ecosystems. The first cargo of deforestation-free soybeans landed in Tianjin in May 2024 and was widely reported.
